The following are part of the descriptions of the physiognomic types identified on the SFTRMB:

Water - streams, lakes, ponds, estuaries, lagoons, flooded oxbows, and water treatment facilities. SFTRMB represents 60,041 of linear feet of streams. This cover type represents all 34,388 linear feet of perennial streams (including Red Oak Creek and Trinity River), and 25,653 linear feet of intermittent streams within the SFTRMB.

Wooded swamps surround the 25,653 linear feet of intermittent streams; however, 21,640 linear feet of the Trinity River and 5,678 linear feet of Red Oak Creek are currently devoid of trees. The cover type also represents existing impoundments found within the bank. This physiognomic type has limited wetland functions other than hydrologic cycling and providing diversity of habitats for improved biodiversity.
